Ooh, Ooh, Can I Be Rainy Day Woman #35?

The rain was coming down hard but I didn't really mind because I had an umbrella. It would have been nice to be in rain boots, but I left those at home and had to make do with what I had at the apartment. Plus, we always used jellies for the pool so it wasn't that bad. And they could be washed off and dried, something I planned to do as soon as I'd get to the offive. Nearing the offive, I crossed the street. This was a careful one step at a time kind of day because the rain kept making the inside of my jellies slippery. I wasn't at risk of slipping on the sidewalk; I was at risk of slipping clear out of my shoes. Which I did when trying to get from the street onto the sidewalk. Putting one foot firmly on the sidewalk, I lifted the other and realized the ease with which it happened was too smooth. My shoe was still sitting in the puddle that gathered against the wall of the sidewalk. I turned around to get a better look at the situation and found myself making straight eye contact with a very attractive laughing 20-something guy. He was standing in the street about a foot behind my swimming shoe waiting for me to figure out what to do. I leaned down and slipped my foot into the shoe, still keeping eye-contact. (No really, he was very cute.)
"Well, at least your shoes are plastic!"
"That's why I've got them!" I said and walked down the rest of the block wondering why at 22 I still can't make myself seem cool.

Talk With Your Ears.

This morning, I met a dog and its owner. The dog raised its tail to me and sat at its owner's feet. Then the woman said, "oh look--you have a friend! Talk with your ears." It was a pretty dog, but very dirty. Don't you have to take extra care when you have a white dog to keep its fur beautiful? Plus, the shirt she had on it was stained--pink (I hope the dog was female, but you never know nowadays) with stain marks. Otherwise I might have tried to pet it. Just to clarify, I had nothing else to do since the woman was getting food at my coffee/bagel place and there's only room enough for one customer in the store at a time. Which reminds me that I haven't seen Zoe (a dog I've known since her birth a few months ago) in over a month. Shabbat Shalom.

Tomorrow I'm Bringing Pumpernickel

This past Shabbos, someone at shul (someone's guest) told me to write up a "shidduch bio." I pretended that I didn't know what it was and acted like she was gracing me with a brilliant new concept. Thanks, but no thanks. Maybe not even thanks. It was funny, though, when she told my mother that she was telling me how to market myself because, and I quote, "every boy needs a secretary and every girl needs PR," and my mother responded that you can see I market myself which she later told me meant that I don't hide away at home but go out and meet new people but sounded to me at the time like I sashay around calling attention to myself.
Today an elderly man sat next to me in the park and told me, when I got off my phone, how other countries are more technologically advanced than the US. He and his wife were visiting from Dallas and they were going to have lunch around the corner with their son who's a stock broker. I don't know why he sat next to me when his wife was on the benches diagonally across from us and out of earshot. At least he went to get her and they walked holding onto each other.
Someone used my credit card on Friday for a purchase of $74 and I can't recall spending that much anywhere on Friday.
I got a craving for falafel so I went to the pita place around the corner from the lot I had my car in. The guy asked me if I go to NYU. After allowing the compliment of how young looking I am pass, I told him I work in the area.
"Are you the girl who called yesterday?"
"No...but I thought about calling."
"You know, we deliver for free."
"$3 orders?"
They're a shwarma place, so I'd never spend more than the price of a falafel. He asked if there are a lot of Jews in my office and when I answered that there aren't, he told me that if I call and order and the guy's going in my direction he can drop it off on the way.
Then I ate a falafel in my car while navigating rush hour traffic. Some days are just like that.

www.creedthoughts.gov.www/creedthoughts

I have a few things to say, so I'm going to start here. Thimblerigger is one of the awesomest words ever. Thimblerigger. It takes a while to get properly, but it's worth it. I thought it was a nonsense word made up to call people when you want to sound angry, but it's actually a word. I'm going to use it instead of doofus. It sounds more old-fashioned. Furthermore, a cyclist almost ran me over the other day. True story. In other news, someone waved vigorously at me today and said, "hi gorgeous." That's right, waved. I did not know him.

Yay Hooray for Spring

I was lying on my stomach in Bryant Park when I noticed something moving to my right. Turning my head, I saw an adorable toddler with curly hair crouching next to my face as if to take a closer look. I took out one of my earphones and said, "hi!"
"Aaaahaha!" he said while jumping back up.
He ran away and his father and I laughed.

Blur Blur Blur

I thought the conversation I had with the guy at the tire place was interesting. It went like this.
"Wow, does that say 100,000 miles???"
"Uh, yeah."
"100,000 miles. That's crazy. A car this age should have an average of 32,000 miles."
"Oh, wow."
"Where do you take this thing? Is it mostly local driving?"
"Lots of commuting."
Then I went to the gym and pretty much ruined someone's day with my awkwardness. After putting some weights back on the rack, I was walking along the mirrors when I noticed some guy was talking to me. I turned my music off.
"What?"
"Blur blur blur reserves blur blur?"
"What, sorry?"
"Blur blur blur reserves?"
I took one of my earphones out. "Sorry?"
"Are you a reserves?"
"Am I what?"
"The Israeli Army, are blur blur reserves?"
Smile. "What? I'm sorry, what?"
"Your shirt. Are you a reserves?"
I looked down at my IDF tee-shirt.
"Oh, no, haha. Just a fan."
"Did you get the shirt blur blur?"
"Did I--what was that?"
"The shirt. Did you just blur blur the army blur get it?"
"Um, what?"
"Did you have to get that in Israel?"
"Yup. I got it in Israel."
"So you just went to blur blur get it blur?"
At that point, I just gave up.
"Yups!" I said, smiled, and walked away.

I Happen to Like the Thin, Burnt Kind

I stood in the fish supplies aisle trying to find the food that doesn't have any wheat in it. After having finally found it, I turned around to find myself face to face with a store worker.
"Excuse me, are you looking for food you can use on the holiday?"
And the cleaners know what a kittle is.

Have a chag kasher v'sameach!

I Was Wearing Rainboots

My cousin and I were going to do a slow night together. No groups of friends, movies, concerts, hikings, etc. Just us and nothing else. After dropping a friend off to go see a movie with other friends, we drove around midtown a bit to find a spot. We parked on one of those streets where the sidewalk is very skinny because there's construction going on and walked along the street. There was a big SUV on the side of the street, but not parked, so we had to walk around it. When we got to the other side, we were greeted by a very tall frat-boy who stood with his arms open out to the sides.
"Do you wanna dance?" he asked.
Obviously, we walked around him, grabbed each other's arms, and bursted out laughing.

"Oh, C'mon--Don't Be Such a Girl!"

I had a few extra minutes this morning, so I stopped at Starbucks to get a coffee (I stopped doing caffeine so I just had a tea, but I was very tired and needed a boost). I pulled into a spot, crossed Queens Blvd., and got a latte. The light was turning green when I was ready to cross, but I ran across the first part of the blvd. anyway because there was only one car waiting. As I ran in front of the car, the driver started honking to me. I turned to look at the car and saw him waving manically. I halfway turned away and then turned back and gave him an, "I don't think I know who you are look" so he rolled down his window to tell me, I guess, but the girl sitting next to him was either embarrassed or laughing--I couldn't tell--and she made him drive off because cars were coming up behind him. It was probably a case of mistaken identity, but it's killing me to figure out who he was.
